International Green Week Berlin is one of the oldest grand exhibition in Europe has celebrated 90 years of its history. While Berlin in General is quite welcoming and full of new ideas, Messe Berlin is one of the giant spaces for exchanges, inspiration and exposure.
Our visit to the Green Week was organised by German Federal Foreign Office and kindly facilitated by the Embassy of Germany in Uzbekistan, in my case. I was proud to be one of the 18 journalists and experts selected around the world from Argentina to China. During the week we spent intensively in Berlin we became very close friends, discovered economic trends and innovations of Germany, met producers and experts from around the world.
Morocco was the international partner of the Green Week, which made the opening show and the spirit of the event just unforgettable by the spectacular oriental touch.
1 660 exhibitors from 65 countries presented their products during the week. It looks like a massive food map of the world as you walk through the Messe Berlin. Taste of different countries, best national food, beverages, groceries and even traditions, music and festivities everywhere. And you can see how each country representatives were proud of their own culture and tried to share as much as possible.
Uzbekistan was one of 29 countries who had national pavilion. It was represented by best wine, fruits and vegetables, delicious dry fruits and of course traditional food and bread. Every morning oshpaz – Uzbek chef, who has specially came from Uzbekistan would cook plov (traditional rice dish), samsa (pastry with meat or vegetables), manti (traditional dumplings) and sweets so visitors can try it all fresh.
But exhibition is not all. Global Forum for Food and Agriculture connected world leaders, farmers, experts and public to discuss the emerging issues of food security, sustainable agriculture and preserving local specialties.
Almost 400 000 visitors came to Green Week from January 15 to 24 proving once again its status of Berlin’s best attended trade show. New International Green Week will be held from 20 to 29 January 2017
